Sally – Adopted Jan. 04

sallypretty.jpg

Sally came from the East Coast with her mama, Syd. They were seized from a neglectful home where dog fighting was suspected and ACDs may have been used as “bait dogs”. Luckily Syd and Sally were in perfect health and sweet dispositions. Sally was born deaf but has since learned over 16 signs and is living like a princess with her dad, John and two kitty siblings ;)

Thanks to Brooke and Dan, Sally does have a MUCH better life than she otherwise would have had. As her proud owner, I always jump at the chance to show off the fact that even though she’s deaf, she’s just as sweet and well behaved (sometimes even more so) as other dogs. I love the looks on kids faces when I tell them to give Sally the sign for “sit” or “stay” or “good girl” and she responds to them…. “Can I do it again?!?!”
I encourage anyone not to let deafness get in the way of adopting any dog, ACD or otherwise. My sis had a deaf Aussie as well, and he was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. While deafness is typically the result of bad breeding (at least in the ACD breed) that should not result in the dog ever being destroyed. I know deaf dogs are not for everyone, but I encourage anyone who’s a little curious to check out http://www.deafdogs.org – they have been a wealth of information for me and Sally.
Thank you again Brooke and Dan!! Great new website!
